balance

The kindergarteners have been learning about symmetry and balance. If something is symmetrical, it is balance. If something is balanced, it isn't necessarily symmetrical. (A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. Same idea.) If something is divided in half and both sides are the same, it is symmetrical. In art, if both sides have equal visual weight, then they are balanced. The students practiced their understanding of balance by creating insects or animal pictures that were balanced.
