radial designs

The first graders learned about radial designs. They looked at sand mandalas by buddhist monks and cathedral rose windows for inspiration. Just like rays on a sun, the design bursts from the middle. First they folded their square paper to create guidelines for their pattern. In each section, they tried to draw the same design, rotating the paper as they went. First they used crayon then painted over it with watercolor.
