Kandinsky inspired drawings

Kandinsky

Today, the 1st graders discussed the abstract art work by Vassily Kandinsky. Born in Moscow in 1866, he was considered one of the founders of nonobjective abstract art. A late bloomer, he dedicated his life entirely to painting at age thirty after completing law school. Rather than reproducing exact forms, he combined lines, forms, and colors to provide the onlooker with a full range of possible interpretations and emotions. The students looked at several of Kandinsky's paintings on the SmartBoard and shared the stories they saw within them.
Afterwards, they reviewed different types of lines and created their own Kandinsky inspired abstract drawings. They filled each shape with alternating colors. At the end of class, they shared their drawings with one another and had fun finding images and stories within them.
