First graders created abstract paintings inspired by Vassily Kandinsky. Just like the Russian artist, they listened to music while working to get their creative juices flowing.
He was quoted for saying, “Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.”
Students filled their compositions with overlapping crayon lines first which then created shapes and forms. While listening to jazz music, the students used watercolors and intuition to add color to their drawings.
